Lionel (Ch Crumpsbrook Bayleaf von Rulander)

Lionel was bred by Jo Bargman in 2014 and we had such a job choosing our puppy. He had so much to live up to. We wanted something just like Doug, but as it happens, Lionel holds his own and is quite simply... Lionel. He has inherited many of Doug's lovely traits, he is calm and sociable and a real softy and as it turns out- a Champion!
Lionel's hunting drive is immense but he is unbelievably biddable. There were times with Doug, at the same age, where training was so exasperating, but Lionel has been a dream. He hunts for fun and covers the ground, fast yet methodically and holds a staunch point. We often watch in awe. We never believed we would ever match Doug's retrieving prowess but in his own way he has. He is like a bullet when cast off and holds an amazing straight line. Lionel listens to Matt (whereas Doug always thinks he is too clever for listening; although often he is). His hunting talent, combined with his retrieving and biddability has made him a wonderful dog to have out in the field both rough shooting and competively. |
He recently won the GSPA Open Working Test at Fairford, 4th at the KC Open Test at Chatsworth and numerous wins and placings as a puppy. He is a rough shooting dog primarily, but has been grouse counting and competing in field trials, where he is exceptional on game. Having achieved a field trial award he is now a FULL Champion- just like his dad.
Lionel exceeded our expectations of him in the show ring and has 10 RCC’s and 6 CC's with 3 Best of Breed, a Reserve Best in Show and a Best in Show at the Club Open 2019. His show wins combined with his working achievements meant Lionel has been runner up Large Munsterlander of the Year in 2015 and 2016.
